12.4.01 Barmby fearing preamture end of season
Nick Barmby is battling to ensure his season hasnt come to a
premature end.
The England midfielder picked up an ankle injury in the FA Cup semi-final against
Wycombe on Sunday and has already been definitely ruled out for three weeks.
Manager Gérard Houllier has confirmed Barmby is likely to undergo surgery in the
summer, but for the time being the specialist has immobilised the ankle to limit the
damage.
Houllier said: Nick has a cast on his foot and is likely to be out for around
three weeks.
It would be premature at this stage to say his season is over but there are
only five and a half weeks of the season left. I still hope he will be available to
play before the end of the season.
